Posted on: May 16th, 2010 Charles drops some knowledge in an interview at ECBACC

Dominion Publishing made quite the impression this summer at the East Coast Black Age of Comics Con! The booth presentation and products generated incredible buzz and caused a real stir at the convention. It was enough that he was interviewed by Crazy Alcayne TV, an alt urban lifestyle video mag that was there keeping tabs on upcoming trends. Charles delivered some choice facts in his own inimitable way.

What attracted Al was the “Brooklyn-bred” theme to the Darkside Chronicles East section of Dominion. Charles expounded on Ravenous Redd, talking up our seven-foot-tall crimson hero and his connection to Charles’ beloved home town, which in his opinion gets short shrift in general and comics in specific. In Redd, he desires to capture the essence of the Brooklyn experience – the cops and government are after you – while projecting it on an otherworldly fantasy. “Believe it not, I’m really trying to tell the tale of the average Black man…in my particular twist, of course,”he said.

Charles did us proud by spelling the name out in a live unedited interview with only one flub. Grace under fire, right there. He demonstrated our proprietary N’Case format (which looked great on the video) and was able to show his next project, a full color Art Gallery, behind the scenes book (CHARLES: PLEASE PUT THE NAME HERE). He sent out some “love” to Diamond Distribution, and waxed philosophical on the origins of his interest in comics. He was able to remember the first comic his mother ever got him at the tender age of seven; hint, it was Nova from Marvel. He explained that his present weekday work, graphic design, came from a desire to learn as much about comics, including all the behind the scenes production work, lettering, logo design to achieve a total vertical integration in his art process.

Being a tools geek, he showed off his Cintiq, explaining his merging of old school paper and pencil techniques with the latest in computer-powered painting. Props to Al Cayne who put him on the spot with his favorite comic book movie (Iron Man) and offered him a devil’s advocate choice between Star Wars: Episode 1 and Transformers 2 for most offensive stereotype that needs to be seen to be believed.
